Marville Photographe Du Musee Imperial Du Louvre". Additional information provided by Robert Hill [pers. comm. 20 June 2010]. The photographer Charles Marville had a good working relationship with the prominent Paris architect Paul Abadie (1812-1884). Abadie was commissioned to create a new City Hall in Angouleme around the remnants of a 12th C. castle in the centre of the city. He started the project in 1858 and finished it in 1867. When it was finished, he asked Marville to photograph both exteriors and interiors. Comparisons with contemporary photographs confirm the location. |
