Nothing helps to convent a sense of grandeur in undertaking so much as physically huge size in a print, and in this sense the present photograph and subject are extremely well matched. As a typical 19th century, contact-printed image, for those with a technical interest the background processes, the size and preparation involved in the required wet collodion negative is something frightening to consider.
