Photograph of Cetshwayo reclining on a mat. There is a tartan blanket draped across him and he has an isicoco, a band of hair and grass woven onto the heads of married Zulu men. There is a cannon just visible behind him. Cetshwayo was the King of the Zulu Kingdom at the time of the Anglo-Zulu War (1879). This photograph was probably taken at the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town, where he was exiled following the Zulu defeat.
