Photograph of Cetshwayo sitting on a wooden chair beneath a tree. He is looking slightly to the right and his hands are clasped together. There is a tartan blanket wrapped around him and he has an isicoco, a band of hair and grass woven onto the heads of married Zulu men. Cetshwayo was the King of the Zulu Kingdom at the time of the Anglo-Zulu War (1879). This photograph was probably taken at the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town, where he was exiled following the Zulu defeat.
