Curatorial description (Accessed: 29 November 2018)
The son of a manufacturer, William Leighton Leitch abandoned a career in law to become a landscape painter, inspired through an early love of art and meeting with the artists Horatio McCulloch (1805-1867) and Daniel Macnee (1806-1882). His work was admired by Queen Victoria and he taught her drawing for almost twenty years. He posed for Hill and Adamson a number of times, including in costume as a monk.
