A Postman in Northern Scotland
[Outposts of Britain]

Swann Galleries - New York
Sale 2414, Graphic Design, 10 May 2016, lot: 147

Kauffer designed six posters for Britain's General Post Office, including a series of four called Outposts of Britain, to illustrate that the G.P.O. could reach anywhere in the country, no matter how isolated the destination. For each, Kauffer uses an asymmetrical graphic frame of primarily black and blue into which he integrates black and white photographs. These are the larger format. Kauffer 241, Modern British Posters p. 119.
