Red leather album containing 141 photographs documenting the tour the Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII, made of the Indian subcontinent in 1875-6. Bourne and Shepherd's Royal Photographic Album of Scenes and Personages connected with H.R.H. the Prince of Wales' Tour in India 1876 is embossed in gold on the front cover, along with motifs of flowers, leaves and acorns in black and gold. The album includes photographs of significant Indian sites such as the Taj Mahal, scenes of the Prince of Wales and his party hunting and portraits of local princes. Each photograph is accompanied by a written explanation. Contains RCINs 2114100 - 2114240.
The Prince of Wales started his eight month tour of the Indian subcontinent in October 1875. He travelled extensively across the different regions and met many prominent Indian rulers. This album was published commercially by Bourne & Shepherd, the leading photographic agency in India. Three copies are held in the Royal Collection.
