Marmion: A Tale of Flodden Field. By Sir Walter Scott, Bart. With Photographic Illustrations by Thomas Annan. 18s. The photographic illustrations to "Marmion," executed by Mr. Thomas Annan, are fifteen in number, comprising Scott's Monument at Edinburgh, and the principal sites referred to in the poem. This is a companion volume to the "Lady of the Lake," photographically illustrated by Messrs. Wilson and Ogle. The illustrations to "Marmion" are rich in historical interest, and their reproduction by photography imparts a new charm to the poem. The view of Workworth Castle is a gem in its way. "Tantallon's Dizzy Steep" is, we think, taken from the wrong point of view, the east. A view from the north-west would have been better. Of Holyrood Palace, too, we should have had the whole west front, not the northern wing and ruined chapel. But, take it all in all, the volume is one to be prized.
