Photograph of guns in the Redan fortress. The walls of the fortress are reinforced with sandbags and wicker fencing and the ground is covered by debris. Two cannons are positioned near the wall. After an eleven month siege the city of Sevastopol was captured by the allied British, French and Turkish forces on 8th September 1855. Lefevre photographed a number of strategic fortresses shortly after they had been abandoned by the Russians.
