Photograph of a topographical view of Ali Masjid, with the fort in the centre, on top of a steep hill, with other, taller, hills behind. A few tents and marquee can be seen on the ground by the river, by a stone edifice. The Second Afghan War (1878-80) took place in this area. John Burke was an unofficial photographer who was travelling with the Peshawar Valley Field Force, during that time.
