John Dudley Johnston (1868 - 1955) was born Liverpool. He studied music and was, at one time, Director of the Liverpool Philharmonic Society. He was a noted Pictorialist photographer, a collector, curator and driving force behind the Royal Photographic Society's photographic collection. He was an elected member of the RPS in 1907; admitted FRPS in 1925; awarded Hon. FRPS in 1925; President of the RPS 1923 to 1925 and again 1929 to 1931; awarded RPS Progress Medal in 1952. Curator of the RPS Collection from 1924 to 1955. Elected Member of the Linked Ring Brotherhood, 22 Oct 1908. Awarded OBE for services to photography in 1948.
