1853-1854 (winter of)
Surveying crew

Daguerreotype, 1/4 plate
Archives of Modern Conflict OR National Gallery of Canada
H.G. Fetter (Peru, Indiana)

Surveying crew comprised of three men with their surveying instruments and tools. Young man on left holds the rod. The man in middle holds the axe and wooden stake while the man on right runs the book. In foreground is the surveying instrument on a tripod.

Lifting the image out of its case sometimes reveals a wealth of information concerning the image. In this example, it is written in pencil on the paper liner in the inside back of the case. It reads:

Taken in Peru Indiana by H. G. Fetter artist.

Robert Allen - Clerk for Beale & Co.
Wm. A. Wilson - Clerking for Talbot
During the winter of 1853 & 1854.
