PHOTOGENIC IMAGES OF MICROSCOPIC OBJECTS.*

M. Donné presented several of these drawings, obtained with the ordinary compound microscope, and exhibited to the Academy the little apparatus of which he availed himself to produce them.
 
After having removed the eye-glass of the microscope, I receive the image of the object on a small transparent screen which serves me to find the focus: I then substitute for the screen on iodized plate, and when the light has produced its impression on this plate, I expose it in the usual way to the vapour of mercury.
 
I have only succeeded in these experiments by receiving the direct solar light on the reflecting mirror; the flame of a good Argand lamp produced nothing in the space of two hours and a half.
 
The microscope - daguerreotype which I present, of which I owe the first idea to M. Doyere, is now regularly made by M. Soleil, after the model which I have given to that skilful optician.
