Mountain Road, Banff Hotel, in Distance. The inspiration of Canadian Pacific Railway official William Cornelius Van Horne, the Banff Springs Hotel (also known as the Hotel Banff) was one of Canada's grand railway hotels, built to attract visitors and increase use of the railway. The luxurious resort hotel, designed by American architect Bruce Price, opened in 1888.
