Vertical, black and white photograph. One view of the portrait of a bearded man wearing a suit, the face of the man colored pink, image cracked and partially illegible. The photograph is encased in a bronze-colored metal preserver frame and mat decorated and engraved with a raised scale design along the edges and circular indentations surrounding the image in an oval. The back of the photograph depicts the following description in cursive: "Jan. 29th. 1858 Alex. [note - could also be spelled "Alesc."] Breeland, Counterfeiter. 5 yrs in alton Penententiary 5 ft 7 inch. aged 45 yr. Kept coffee House in Peoria, IL [note - "Peoria, IL" is crossed out] [Illegible]."
