Photograph of a ruined house behind the Malakoff fortress in Sevastopol. In the foreground a soldier is standing beside a horse on a road which is piled with wood and wicker fencing. Behind is a stone wall and a large building in ruins. After an eleven month siege the city of Sevastopol was captured by the allied British, French and Turkish forces on 8th September 1855. Lefevre photographed a number of scenes of the city shortly after it had been abandoned by the Russians.
