Photograph of the Torre de los Escipiones or the Tower of the Scipios a large stone monument with three tiers situated in scrubland. The second tier of the monument features two figures carved in relief, both of whom wear Roman costume and stand on pedestals. The third segment features two figures over which is an arch. At the top would have been a crown which is not present.
The Tower of the Scipios is a first century funereal monument that stands 4 miles to the east of Tarragona. It is 30ft in height and was constructed from ashlar stone. The two figures in relief may represent the God Attis, often depicted on Roman funereal monuments. It is not known if the tomb contains the remains of the Roman Scipio family.
