Ramnagar is situated on the right bank of the Ganges River and was made the capital of the former princely state of Benares (Varanasi) by Raja Balwant Singh in 1750. His son Chet Singh built the Sumer Temple in the Rambagh gardens. It is 100 feet high and carved to a height of about fourty feet from the ground.
