Man in Jinrikisha, Pulled by Man in Loincloth

Ambrotype
Charles Schwartz Ltd
A man wearing a fundoshi (traditional loincloth) pulls a jinrikisha or "rickshaw," a mode of transportation introduced to Japan during the Meiji Period. The seated man wears traditional clothing, but holds a Western style straw hat and dark umbrella. It's interesting to note that the man in the loincloth has had his "chomage" (topknot hairstyle) recently cut off. Inscriptions directly under the glass note the exact date and time the image was made.
