The photograph has been painted over, adding a wide range of colours. Maria Feodorovna, born Princess Dagmar of Denmark, was the consort of Alexander III, Emperor of Russia. She wore this costume to a ball held by Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich in 1883.
