The Fraser River Canyon was formed during the Micene period by the river cutting through interior plateaus on its way to the Fraser Valley. The Cariboo Wagon road was a road begun in 1860 and linked Yale to Barkerville in British Columbia. It was initiated by the then Governor of British Columbia, James Douglas (1803-77).
