Photograph of Shere Ali Khan, Emir of Afghanistan. He is sitting with his head turned slightly to the right and a long sword in his left hand. He is wearing a long coat, a decorative belt and a fur hat. There is a curtain draped behind him to the right. Shere Ali Khan was Emir of Afghanistan at the time of the outbreak of the Second Anglo-Afghan War in 1878. This photograph was taken by John Burke at the Ambala Durbar in 1869.
