Václav Chochola began photographing while still a student and published his first images in 1940. Early on he worked with colleagues such as Karel Ludwig, Zdenek Tmej, Karel Hájek, Kamil Lhoták Frantiek Hudecek, Jirí Kolár, Zdenek Seydl and Frantiek Tichý who together founded the Group 42 during WWII.
