On the back of the photograph:
 
"Photograph of Buck's Head and Antlers, captured by
Allen B. Hoyt, of Grand Junction, Colorado, season of 1888,
and presented Henry N. Hastings, of Lynn, Massachusetts,
as a Christmas present, year above mentioned.
The subject of the photograph was shot at a distance of 600 yards,
and weight of the deer was upwards of 200 pounds.
Head and Antlers mounted and photographed, at Lynn, 1889,
and photograph is hereby presented Allen B. Hoyt in acknowledgement of the gift."
