Photograph of the Carronade Battery by the Redan, showing engineers looking for electric wires. The walls of the battery are reinforced with sandbags and wicker fencing and cannons are spaced at intervals. Three men stand at different points around the battery. After an eleven month siege the city of Sevastopol was captured by the allied British, French and Turkish forces on 8th September 1855.
