This image shows Wilhelm von Gloeden (left) dressed in Roman costume. A variant of this image has been attributed to von Gloeden as a self-portrait (see Canet). Giovanni Crupi was the teacher of Wilhelm von Gloeden and various views of Pompei and Palermo by Crupi appear to have been taken at the same time as similar images by von Gloeden, which suggests that the two men travelled together. The authorship of their work has often been interchanged due to their close collaboration. - A few scuff marks in upper corners, minimal fading in edges, otherwise in very good condition.
