Edward Arning (Hamburg)
 
Dr. Edward Christian Arning was born in Manchester England in 1855 and died in Munich in 1936. He was the son of a German merchant who had settled in England. Arning is considered the first microbiologist in Hawaii and he pioneered work on Leprosy. He was also a gifted amateur photographer. A fascinating account of his life can be found online at the Mamiya Medical Heritage Center, Hawaii Medical Library in Honolulu, HI.
