The great French adventurer, novelist, intellectual served as a pilot for the Republican forces in the Spanish Civil War. This 11 7/8" x 9 +" gelatin silver print, ferrotyped, seems to be vintage 1937. It is signed by Freund on the verso, with her pencil description in French. She has also signed the mat, recto and again on verso. There is a stamp verso for "Service Culturelle de l'Ambassade de France."
