When Trude Fleischmann opened her studio in 1920 in Vienna's Ebendorferstraße, she portrayed many celebrities from the arts and culture. A large part of her clients for society portraits came from the fields of theatre, music and dance. Her nudes can also be seen in the context of the new dance movement, the life-reforming nudism culture and a new female self-conciousness. When the offered photograph was shown in 2011 on the occasion of a comprehensive solo exhibition (and another from the same series was published prominently on the catalogue cover), the sitter was referred to as Claire Bauroff, with whom Trude Fleischmann had also photographed a nude series a few years earlier. In the meantime, the two dancers - despite the similarity in stature and poses - could be identified and distinguished in the respective photographs.
