The area around Bredicot Court in Worcestershire provided Benjamin Brecknell Turner with some of his favourite subjects in his early days as a photographer. Since it was the family home of his wife, Agnes (née Chamberlain), it had a strong personal connection for him. Agnes's father, Henry Chamberlain, had been a porcelain manufacturer until 1837, when he purchased Bredicot farm, most of whose buildings could be dated to the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Turner photographed the farm and its environs during holiday visits to the Chamberlains. In this image, Turner has focused his attention on the main house and the "piggery" that was located just across a small laneway. Bredicot farm, with its quaint cottages, historic architecture, and rustic farm implements, provided Turner with a rich supply of picturesque imagery.
