Ambrotype Charles Schwartz Ltd In this rare and fascinating image we see the daughter figure holding a Furoshiki a traditional cloth used to wrap and transport gifts and other personal items. Furoshiki use dates back to Edo-Period Japan, and with the Postwar advent of plastic and other bags had fallen out of favor. Now, however (with environmental concerns) the Japanese Minister of the Environment has been advocating its use. A clear, Meiji-period portrait, taken by Japanese photographer, in its original case.
