Co. (http://www.pinholecamera.com/) about 13 years ago. However, the pinhole that was made for the camera didn't work for me--it was too small. So I removed it and made my own "pinhole" using a nail. I am attaching a recent photo taken of me holding that camera along with some of the tin can cameras I've been using to shoot landscapes lately. |

Yama, Front [Yama camera] Color image Provided by the artist - Wayne Martin Belger Yama is 4x5 in stereo camera made from Aluminum, Titanium, Copper, Brass, Bronze Steel, Silver, Gold, Mercury with 4 Sapphires, 3 Rubies, Asian and American Turquoise, Sand, Blood, and 9 Opals and a 500 year old human Skull. The film loading system is pneumatic. A 300psi air tank in the middle of the camera powers 2 pneumatic pistons to move the film holder forward and lock it into place. The switch to open and close the film chamber is located under the jaw. Designed for the study of exodus and for the research of modern incarnations of historical iconic figures. Yama is the Tibetan God of Death. In Tibetan Buddhism, Yama will see all of life and Karma is the "judge" that keeps the balance. The skull was blessed by a Tibetan Lama for its current journey and I'm working with a Tibetan legal organization that is sending me to photograph the refugee cities in India with Yama. Yama's eyes are cast from bronze and silver with a brass pinhole in each. A divider runs down the middle of the skull creating two separate cameras. A finished contact print mounted on copper is inserted in to the back of the camera to view what Yama saw in 3D. Designed for two photo series. First series is of my interpretation of the modern incarnation of Saint, icons and deities. Second will take place in the Tibetan refugee cities of India, a home coming through the eyes of a 500 year old Tibetan. [pers. email, 26 Nov 2011, Wayne Martin Belger to Alan Griffiths] |

Inspired by one of my best friends who is HIV+, I created the project to photograph a global view of people living with HIV and how your location makes all the difference in your well-being. In 2012 I will be shooting with this camera in The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leona, Liberia, Uganda and Ethiopia. If the camera is sold before the Africa trip, the owner will receive every #2 print, from every shoot in Africa for free. This makes this camera one of the best deals because the owner, if bought before the trip, could end up with over 100 photos from the camera for free. 60. | ![]() | Donald Lawrence 1998 Starfish in Tidal Surge [Underwater Pinhole Photography Project] Gelatin silver print 5 x 4 ins (image) 10 x 8 ins (paper) Provided by the artist - Donald Lawrence "The negative for Starfish in Tidal Surge is taken below Horsewell Bluffs, at the entrance to Nanaimo Harbour, and results from my first attempt at using the camera in the ocean environment. I estimated an exposure time of seven seconds, during which time the camera was wedged within a rocky crevice, the tide surging in and out. I simply waited for the water to be as still as possible before slackening the rope that activates the shutter. It was fortunate that this first photograph worked well, as I then took the cameras to Wickaninnish at Long Beach where it took upwards of twenty exposures to obtain a second reasonable negative!" (excerpted from: Corry, Corrine; Susan Gibson Garvey and Karen Ruet, "Interview with the Artist," Donald Lawrence: The Underwater Pinole Photography Project. Katy McCormick (ed.), Toronto, Gallery 44 Centre for Contemporary Photography; Gallery ConneXion (Fredericton); Dalhousie Art Gallery (Halifax); Richmond Art Gallery (Richmond), 2002., p.39) Had this first negative not worked I may have determined that the entire endeavour was not workable. |
