One night I was looking at a daguerreotype of a young mother and baby by the light of a kerosene lamp......the case having a white swagged satin lining on the inside of the cover, reflected in the image the impression of the fathers eye sadly gazing upon his far away wife and child......it was as if his eye had gazed so much upon this image with intensity of longing, that the ghost of his desire was caught in the mirror of time. It was at this moment that I conceived of sharing these "ghosts" with others.
Daguerreotypes have a mirror-like finish. The ghost stories are reflections of photos I have taken, or other objects reflected on their surface, and put together to tell a story. Most of the people in these photos have been closed and forgotten in their cases for 150 years. "3D Ghost Stories" is an attempt to revivify these lost souls, giving them a chance at life once again.
There is a thrust behind this work of who this person was, still projecting their life force through the mirror of memory.
