The botanical drawings and watercolours of the Victorian era have influenced my work as I have always admired their simplicity and purity of form. At home as children we were encouraged to appreciate botany and to collect and identify wild flowers. We would press them and keep them in large albums.
A few years ago I started to create a botanical collection using the camera and available light. I work with monochrome film, toning and hand tinting the final prints. Wild flowers from the hedgerows and meadows, as well as the more well known garden varieties became my subjects.
