Robert Raczka has an MFA in Photography from the University of Florida. He has taught photography for over 25 years and is currently Professor of Art and Gallery Director at Allegheny College. Raczka has been exhibiting his work since the 1980s and has participated in numerous group exhibitions. He has also had several solo shows, including ones at the Painted Bride Art Center in Philadelphia, the University of Rochester, the Three Rivers Arts Festival Gallery in Pittsburgh, and the Tyler School of Art. In addition to his work as a photographer, Raczka has been an active art curator and critic, specializing in photography. He has guest curated exhibits for the Forum Gallery of the Carnegie Museum of Art, the University of Akron, the Erie Art Museum, and the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. As a critic, he has contributed to publications that include Artweek, Artspace, American Craft, New Art Examiner, Sculpture Magazine, and the Photo Review. Raczka‘s recent work focuses on the physical and social landscape of the community in which he lives. Having been away from the area for 10 years, he brings both an understanding of the area as well as the ability to see what longtime residents might overlook. While recognizing the loss and change within the community, Raczka documents the complexity of the place, including unexpected beauty and vitality.
