Early photographer of the American west and noted for taking the first photographs of Crater Lake in 1868. He took up new processes as they were introduced and his photographs include Daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, melainotypes, opalotypes, tintypes, stereoviews, carte de visite, cabinet cards, boudoir cards and larger albumen prints.
