German photographer who was an early adopter of the Leica in 1926 - his book ‘Meine Erfahrung mit der Leica‘ was translated into many languages. His work with the Leica and with the early Agfa color films from 1940 put him at the forefront of adopting new approaches. He was highly original in the angles he used and his shots of everyday items frequently tend towards abstraction.
