Took up photography as a child in London. He attended the University of California, Berkeley and the Clarence White School of Photography. He became an expert on night photography and his work on the Skyscrapers and "City Canyons" of New York is particularly memorable.
An archive of his papers is held at the National Museum of the American Indian Archives, Smithsonian Institution (Local number: NMAI.AC.005).
