Little is known about this photographer who was active during the American Civil War. A salted paper print "Bivouac of the 45th Illinois near the Shirley House, Vicksburg, Mississippi" (1863) is in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum Museum (1994.91.49) and this is surprisingly late for a salt print. It has been proposed that the reason for this may have been the supply shortages due to the blockade of the South.
