Lorena Guillen Vaschetti was born in Argentina in 1974. Vaschetti grew up in Buenos Aires surrounded by the Italian community in Argentina. She started traveling when she was three months old. Her mother Norma, a talented classical dancer and painter, introduced her to the world of art by taking her to museums and galleries throughout Europe.
Lorena studied Architecture and Anthropology at the University of Buenos Aires. During her studies she taught courses in art and culture at the University, including: Architectural History and Habitat Theory. In 2000 she graduated with a degree in Architecture and worked as a freelance architect in Buenos Aires and New York.
Vaschetti began her photographic studies at the age of fourteen. Her formative years were spent in Argentina, the United States and Italy. She studied photography at The International Center of Photography, the New York University, the New School, the Santa Fe Workshops and the Tuscany Photography Workshops. She attended the Photo Expo, New York (2002); Festival International du Photojournalisme, Perpignan (2002); the Santa Fe Reviews, New Mexico (2004) and The Festival of the Light, Buenos Aires (2004).
Her first group exhibition was in Soho, New York, at Egizio's Project Fine Art Space, August 2001. Since her opening, Lorena has been in group and solo exhibitions in New York (The Basement Fine Art Space, 2003; Puffin Foundation Gallery showing two award winning photographs, 2003); Seattle (Washington State Convention Center, 2004; The Benham Gallery, 2002); Ireland (Environmental Photography Awards, Traveling exhibition during 2004); Santa Fe, New Mexico (Verve Fine Arts, 2004) and Buenos Aires (Centro Cultural Recoleta, 2004; Atica Gallery, 2004; Palais de Glace, 2004; Greece Embassy, 2003; Centro Cultural Borges, 2003).
Lorena's work has been published in Outside Magazine ("Exposed", December, 2004); National Geographic Traveler (March, 2004) and the Bergens Tidende Newspaper, Norway (June, 2002). She is the main photographer in the book entitled Tricolor (published in 2003). The United Nations has requested a selected image to be exhibited at the Main Hall of the United Nations, in New York during 2004 and 2005.
Her images are in private collections in Buenos Aires; New York, NY; Santa Fe, NM; Austin, TX and Houston (Museum of Fine Arts) and are also part of The Museet for Fotokunst collection, Denmark.
