One of the less well known photographers of the American Civil War. At times he he managed Mathew Brady's Washington Studio as did Alexander Gardner. He photographed Gen. McClellan's Peninsula Campaign, Seven Days Battles, Battle of Gaines' Mill, and Battle of Malvern Hill. Occassionally who took which photographs is unclear and some photographs are credited to George N. Barnard and James F. Gibson.
