Photojournalist active in the US who recorded the rise of Cassius Clay - who later became Mohammed Ali. He also recorded the American Civil Rights Movement and Martin Luther King Jr. and his work was documented in three books: Martin Luther King Jr.: A Documentary, Montgomery to Memphis (1976); King Remembered (1986); and He Had a Dream (1995). He was also involved in underwater photography and his book, Underwater Photography for Everyone (1976), was a classic.
An archive of his work is held at the Center for American History, University of Texas, at Austin.
