The stereoviews of Alexander Crowe record mainly the region of Stirling, where he opened a studio at 33 Murray Place in 1859. He exhibited portraits, landscapes and cartes-de-visite at the sixth Photographic Society of Scotland show in December 1861. William Rodgers, the son of a Montrose photographer, became his assistant in 1871. Soon he was a partner in the business, which was renamed Crowe & Rodgers. Crowe retired in 1876 and died in 1912. Rodgers died in 1926 and was followed by his son William, who continued to run the business into the 1950s.
