Three documentary photographers, Chris Steele-Perkins, Paul Trevor and Nicholas Battye, worked together in the 1970s in the UK on the "Survival Programmes" project. This project recorded the evidence of racial poverty within the UK between 1974 and 1979 by photographing in the collapsing inner cities of London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Glasgow and Belfast. In 1982 an exhibition of the work was held at the Side Gallery in Newcastle upon Tyne (UK). The importance of this project is now being appreciated and it will be archived at the British Library.
