The German-Israeli photographer Kurt Triest came from a well-off merchant family. In 1932, against his father's will, he took up photography and worked as a freelance photojournalist in Berlin until 1938, when he emigrated to Palestine. Triest worked as a photojournalist in Tel Aviv until 1951.
