Fabulous 1/6 plate shows a corner building with a bookstore downstairs. An advertising banner waves beneath the roof. A woman stands at an open window. There is no awning on the framework, perhaps to allow sunlight to fall on the store window and the people posed behind the water trough for horses. Some prints can be clearly seen hung in the store window, to the right of the door. There is something printed above each store window.
 
A late stereo half accompanies the daguerreotype, showing the same corner (now in "correct" orientation.) It's still a "Books Stationary & Fancy Goods" store. The end board of the awning reads No. 11, "Deiningers." A modern pen inscription on the back of the mount, dated May 1878, reads "The house on corner was across from Christ's Lutheran Church - or next to it." [There was a Church of that name on W. Diamond Street, and on Germantown Avenue.] "We three girls were born there & that was Papa's book storeà." A modern color polaroid shows it now as a tanning salon.
