Three seated men outside at table covered with bottles of wine and a large gourd or pumpkin. All are smoking pipes. The man at the right is wearing a cap. The other two men are wearing large, wide-brimmed hats.
 
Inscription: Inscribed at bottom of mat, in pencil, by Poitevin: "Gauthier [space] Schneider [space] Jourdet / (Monmorot. 1848). Poitevin" Secondary Inscription: Inscribed on backing, at left center, in pencil: "80 [encircled]". Partial black imprinted paper used as part of backing: "6. / T IMPRIMERIE DE BACHELIER, / Quai des Augustins, no. 55. / [double rule] / DES SÉANCES DE L'ACAD. DES SCIENCES. / [single rule] / tevin, / nieur [next part obscured by paper seal]e l'Est, [inverted]"; at bottom center: "PS"
