Untitled [Photograph of foliage]

Salted paper print, from film negative 1981
Victoria and Albert Museum
Given by Howard Grey, Museum number: PH.313-1981

Label for 'Making It Up: Photographic Fictions' (3 May 2013 - 12 January 2014):

These photographs were made in 1981 using a process dating from the 1840s and '50s. They were commissioned by The Connoisseur magazine to test the expertise of collectors. When a woman pretending to have found them in her attic showed them to experts at auction houses and museums, including the V&A, they were identified as 1850s salted paper prints. They were donated to the V&A after the magazine published the article.
