André Giroux was the son of Alphonse Giroux, the manufacturer of the original Daguerre equipment. He was also a landscape painter and from 1825 - 1830 he lived in Rome and painted Italian landscapes together with Camille Corot and Léon Fleury.
 
In the Bassenge, Berlin (Photography, Sale: 90, Lot: 4059, Dec 5, 2007) sale catalog rgis was listed as an "Albumen print from a waxed paper negative" but it is "e;varnished salt print" from calotype negative. (pers. comm. Marco C. Antonetto, Dec 26, 2007)
