Sepia toned photograph of a bizarre and extravagant stage show with a French Vigny Golliwogg perfume theme. De Vigny of Paris made "Le Golliwog" perfume which was marketed
internationally in a Golliwog-shaped bottle using sealskin hair on the stopper.
GOLLIWOG
The Golliwog character was created by Bertha Upton in the 1890's, and illustrated by her daughter Florence, and became a very popular childrens book, with over 13 Golliwogg books published between 1895 and 1909.
